Curriculum

Our Program

The Children’s Center of Kempsville understands and strives to provide an environment for children that is caring and fun with age appropriate  social and educational opportunities. The children are encouraged to be creative and are given positive reinforcement to enhance self-esteem.  Physical activity is a daily part of our program.

Our 2 and young 3 year olds are learning with Virginia’s Smart Beginnings 1-2-3 Read curriculum in which activities are based on a book of the month.  The goal is to develop verbal skills and emergent literacy – the foundation of later reading and writing success. Potty training and developing self-help skills are taught, as well.

Our 4 and 5 year olds are learning with a thematic curriculum, in which the
weekly themes integrate reading, math, science, social studies, art and music.
Written, as well as hands-on activities are incorporated into the curriculum.  Preparation for kindergarten is emphasized.

Our kindergarten-age children, who attend our morning before school program
review grade level skills based on the public school curriculum. Our goal is to
promote continued success in kindergarten.
